I noticed that in Istanbul and Antalya, many people prefer gated complexes with pools and shared facilities. Is this also common in Izmir, or is the housing more old-school?

Very much so! Especially in newer districts like Mavişehir and Bornova, residential complexes in Izmir are in high demand. They usually come with 24/7 security, underground parking, pools, gyms, even kids' play areas — ideal for families and young professionals. I live in one near Folkart Towers, and it’s been amazing in terms of comfort and community feel. Prices are still lower than Istanbul for what you get — expect to pay around €130K–€200K for a spacious 2 or 3-bedroom in a high-spec building. These complexes also hold their value better and are easier to rent out. It’s the new normal for modern living in Izmir.
